CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL  2009
Lion Ian enjoying the Dodgems with his son and some of the local Cecil Plains children at the 2009 Christmas Carnival.
Our Christmas Carnival is getting bigger and better every year and with our sponsors help we are able to purchase more and more rides.

The whole Cecil Plains community pitches in to help and it is great to see. The Tennis Club, Kindy, Progress Association, Bongeen Church and other clubs all benefit from us holding this yearly event along with various stall holders.

The highlight of the evening is the firework display which leaves the crowd in awe.

Fishing CompetitionCECIL PLAINS HOOK UP FISHING COMPETITION Col Behrens weighing in the prize winning yellowbelly, which weighed 2.63kg, caught by Brook Jannusch one of the many juniors that participated last year.  76 fishermen attended the Cecil Plains Lions Annual fishing competition held on the banks of the Condamine at Cecil Plains.

Glenys Philby from the Cecil Plains Homestead has kindly allowed the Lions to hold our competition on her property and if anyone is hankering for a country stay she would welcome you to stay at the Cecil Plains Homestead B & B.

In the evening a successful auction was held  and once again all the entry fees were donated  to the Pittsworth Millmerran Fishstocking Association.  Over the last 11 years 1,000,000 fingerlings have been released into the Condamine River between Yarramalong and Cecil Plains and a large number of carp removed.  A band and BBQ are provided for the weekend's entertainment and campsites are available for the weekend event.

CCIA FUN RIDE.  On Thursday 8th June 2010 the Cecil Plains Community hosted 60cyclists and 20 support staff on their 3rd leg of a 5 day ride. The Cecil Plains Lions didn't hesitate saying yes when asked by Len Woodward from the Kallangur Lions if we could  provide meals, hot showers and a place undercover to place their swags for an overnight stay.  We are proud of our small town as the whole community pitched in to make this possible along with the Cecil Plains Lions.  They showered at the Tennis Club, Recreation grounds, Caravan Park, Victory Hotel, private residences and some even braved a cold one and a swim at the Cecil Plains Swimming Pool.  The Cecil Plains Lions, including our two newest members Annie and Aliesha, used the Memorial Hall to cook spaghetti bolognaise and the Lions had a trifle cook off for dessert.  All trifles were deemed winners as none was left over.  The local school provided undercover shelter and everything went smoothly.  Many of the cyclists were from the Kallangur Lions Club and it is the 6th year that they have conducted this fun-ride.  To date they have raised $20,000 for childhood cancer and we hope they have a successful year this year.
